Discussion groups for MPhil/PhD candidates

  • Postgraduate forums: Designed as an opportunity for MPhil/PhD students to get to know each other’s areas of research in order to facilitate better exchange and communication between students, our postgraduate forums take place twice a year.
  • Writing groups: Writing groups are ongoing throughout the year. These are open to all students at all stages of their MPhil/PhD degree. The Writing Group is chaired by a member of staff, and the focus of the discussion is a work-in-progress paper written by one of the students. The aim of the discussion is to provide constructive criticism and feedback on the work, as well as the opportunity to compare different approaches to research.
  • Reading group: The reading group provides a forum for discussion and exchange between research students at Birkbeck and the opportunity for face-to-face encounters and some social contact. The focus of the reading group is typically the discussion of an essay or chapter, which the whole group has read.
  • My Birkbeck Helpdesk: At the My Birkbeck Helpdesk we can help you with all your application and enrolment queries. The Helpdesk can be found to the left of the main entrance to the College via Torrington Square.
