Term dates and holiday closing

Certain term date exceptions apply if you are completing a full-time taught Master's degree (including MRes) or Postgraduate Diploma or are a research student, and you may be expected to study beyond the end of the summer term in order to complete your dissertation.

2026-27

  • Autumn term: Monday 5 October 2026 to Friday 18 December 2026
  • Spring term: Monday 11 January 2027 to Thursday 25 March 2027
  • Summer term: Monday 26 April 2027 to Friday 9 July 2027

Christmas closing 

Christmas closing: Birkbeck will close at 6pm on Wednesday 23 December 2026, and normal services will resume from 9am on Monday 4 January 2027.

The Library may have different opening hours to the rest of the university during holidays. Check Library opening hours.

Easter closing 

Easter closing: Birkbeck will close at 10pm on Thursday 25 March 2027, and normal services will resume from 9am on Thursday 1 April 2027.

    • Autumn term: Monday 4 October 2027 to Friday 17 December 2027
      • Christmas closing: Birkbeck will close at 6pm on Thursday 23 December 2027, and normal services will resume from 9am on Tuesday 4 January 2028.
    • Spring term: Monday 10 January 2028 to Friday 24 March 2028
      • Easter closing: Birkbeck will close at 6pm on Wednesday 12 April 2028, and normal services will resume from 9am on Wednesday 19 April 2028.
    • Summer term: Monday 24 April 2028 to Friday 7 July 2028
