Our service
We provide comprehensive careers advice, events and information services for current students, both in person and online, and for recent Birkbeck alumni. We can help you to:
- find information on training opportunities and part time work
- feel supported in your job search
- get career advice through our one-to-one advice and coaching sessions.
What we offer
More detailed information about our support is outlined below.
Workshops
- Workshops are open to all current students, graduates and alumni.
- As the only college dedicated to evening study, we appreciate a greater degree of flexibility is required when organising the workshops. We endeavour to ensure that our events are run in a similar way and each term offers the chance to attend events which may have clashed with teaching previously.
- The wide range of workshops delivered cover crucial employability topics tailored to the students at Birkbeck.
- Events frequently feature guest speakers from industry or from partner organisations with specialised expertise.
Online career management and resources service
- As a current Birkbeck student, you have access to two online platforms:
- Handshake: Your Career Management Platform where you can book appointments with the Birkbeck Futures team, sign up to workshops and employer-led sessions, connect with employers and your peers and apply for internships and jobs.
- Abintegro: Your online Careers Portal full of resources, activities, and tools, including a CV checker, interview simulator, practice assessment tests, e-learning, industry reports and much more.
- How to log in: You can access both platforms via My Birkbeck. Login using your Birkbeck username and password and click on the Birkbeck Futures tile. You can then select which platform you would like to access.
- We process limited personal data in order to provide these services to you. Please read the Birkbeck Futures privacy notice which explains what we process and why. You can opt out at any time through your My Privacy Control or by emailing Birkbeck Futures.
One-to-one appointments
- If you are a current Birkbeck student and would like to speak to someone to help you identify information, actions, and resources to help you further, you can book a one-to-one session with one of our Careers Consultants via Handshake. Handshake is accessed via the Birkbeck Futures tile on My Birkbeck and you will find the booking system at your Birkbeck, University of London Career Centre.
- Birkbeck graduates can also use Handshake to book one-to-one appointments. If you do not already have one, please register for a Handshake account with a personal, non-Birkbeck, email address.
- Appointments last 30 minutes and take place Monday to Friday depending on the availability of staff and slots.
Get help finding work
- Whether you're looking for work to fit around your studies, or a role for when you graduate, we recommend signing up with Birkbeck Talent, an innovative recruitment service dedicated to matching your skills with internships and roles with London's top employers.
Volunteering opportunities and experience
- Volunteering can be a really useful way to develop your skills, network and meet new people, and make a positive contribution to society.
