Amplify is a programme of dedicated events, networks and paid placement opportunities for Black and Black Mixed heritage students to thrive and succeed at Birkbeck and beyond.

The Amplify Programme

On Amplify, you will engage in a series of workshops, events, socials and one-to-ones to help you grow personally and professionally. These activities are designed to help build stronger communities and deeper connections, provide exposure to relatable professionals, and to support your career planning. There will always be something to get involved in throughout the academic year:

  • Discover what drives you, explore your goals, and identify the skills you want to develop.
  • Meet industry professionals, visit workplaces and grow your network through real-world insights.
  • Apply your learning and experience to secure placements, internships or graduate roles with our support.

Timeline for 2025/26

Term one: Build your reputation

  • Start your journey at the Amplify Welcome Event.
  • Attend a panel discussion and Q&A to hear insights into a range of career journeys.
  • Join us for an end of term social.

Term two: Build your network

  • Engage in a series of one-to-one fortnightly sessions throughout the term to map out your career and micro-placement applications planning.
  • Take part in engaging group workshops.
  • Join us workplace walk-through and expert talks on and off campus (at workplaces).

Term three: Evaluate your progress

  • Prepare for your micro-placement workshop.
  • Access to an exclusive Amplify micro-placement.
  • Join us for various social events and an end-of-year celebration.
