Peter Burtt-Jones

Course Director, Cert CE Performance Studies: Opera

A graduate of the University of Cambridge, where he was a choral scholar at St John’s College. He subsequently joined the post-graduate training scheme run by Welsh National Opera, and twice toured Wales and England with the Arts Council-funded small-scale touring company Opera for All before moving to London.

Between 1969 and 2005 he was a member of the full-time staff of the Faculty of Lifelong Learning at Birkbeck, where he taught opera and drama & theatre studies for over 25 years.

He founded the Performance Studies Programme in 1996 with courses for opera singers. The programme now also includes courses for dancers and actors and concert singers.
