    Biography

I study Middle English and teach widely in English literature and manuscript studies. My two major works are How to Read Middle English Poetry (a guide for all, available as an affordable paperback) and Reading English Verse in Manuscript, c.1350–c.1500 (a technical monograph for specialists).

I hold a BA in English from the University of London, an MSt in English (650–1550) from Oxford and a DPhil in English (to 1550) from Oxford. I've previously been a fellow, at different times, at Corpus Christi, Merton, and St Hilda's colleges in Oxford, and at the Henry E. Huntington Library in San Marino, California.
