Student accommodation - Birkbeck, University of London

Applications for accommodation at the University of London Intercollegiate Halls are open now.

While the majority of our students decide to live in private accommodation, we also offer student accommodation. Birkbeck students can access places in the University of London’s Intercollegiate Halls. Please note that accommodation in London is in high demand, and we recommend that you secure yours as soon as possible. You can consult the  London Rents Map  for an overview of rent rates for different areas. Our Bloomsbury campus is well connected by public transport links.

You may opt to reside outside central London for more budget-friendly accommodation options. However, it is important to only consider choices that allow you to commute to campus for scheduled in-person academic activities, particularly if you're an international student on a Student visa, mandated to attend on-campus studies. We do not recommend students live outside of London.

You can access the University of London’s Housing Services (ULHS), the dedicated Private Housing Service, which offers a range of services to assist and support students, including advice on a range of areas, including accommodation contract checking.

Accommodation for new full-time students

We offer various accommodation options, including University of London intercollegiate halls, and help with finding private accommodation.

Accommodation for continuing full-time students

As a continuing student, you have access to a number of options, including shared accommodation managed by the University of London.

Accommodation for part-time students

You may be able to rent in the private sector, flat-share or homestay (stay with a family).

Accommodation for families and couples

Housing options for families and couples are available in halls, with housing associations and on the private sector.

Accommodation with wheelchair accessibility

A number of wheelchair accessible rooms are available in intercollegiate and independent halls.

Short-term accommodation

Most halls only offer long-term student accommodation, with contracts usually from 40 to 51 weeks. However, a number of options are available for shorter stays.

Accommodation scholarships

A small number of accommodation scholarships are available to full-time students at Birkbeck.
