PSYCHOLOGY FOR EDUCATION @ BIRKBECK: EMOTION-BASED SCHOOL AVOIDANCE

When:
Venue: Birkbeck Main Building

If you work (or would like to work) with children and young people and have an interest in children’s development, mental health and emotional well-being, then this series of free lectures will be of interest to you.

In this series we showcase our work on the Foundation Degree in Psychology for Education Professionals and the BA Psychology for Education.  The issues covered have been chosen as particularly relevant in the current times and are ideal for anyone working with children and young people who has an interest in psychology and/or anyone who wants to find out more about our approach on the psychology for education programmes.

In this final session, we will explore the emotional factors that can lead some children and young people to experience severe difficulty in attending school. Models for understanding how school avoidance develops and is maintained will be presented. We will also explore specific strategies that schools can implement to support children and young people who experience anxiety and school avoidance.  The session will include the opportunity for discussion and a question-and-answer session.
