  • Before you apply for our MPhil/PhD degree, you need to find and make contact with an academic in our School with the experience, knowledge and expertise to supervise your research.

  • The School is offering two fully-funded studentships, covering fees at the Home/EU rate, plus an annual stipend.
  • Applications for part-time study may be considered at an appropriate pro-rata rate.
  • Full-time studentships are for up to three years (subject to satisfactory progress).

  • The studentship waives Home/EU fees for the full-time MPhil/PhD degree and offers an annual stipend set at Research Council rates (£16,777 pa, including London Weighting, in 2018-19 or pro-rata for a part-time award).

  • You must be a new Home/EU or International student, applying for a full-time MPhil/PhD degree in a department within the School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy.
  • The studentships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit.

  • You need to apply to, and secure a place on, an MPhil/PhD degree run by the School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy, which includes submitting a research proposal. See the How to Apply section on the programme page for full details and guidance.
  • You also need to apply separately for the studentship by completing the Postgraduate Scholarship application form and returning it to the relevant administrator in the department to which you are applying.
  • We will only consider currently enrolled MPhil/PhD research students within the School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy under exceptional circumstances. Please send a brief supporting email, outlining these exceptional circumstances, when you submit this form.

  • We are unfortunately not offering these studentships in 2020-21, but may offer them again in the future.
