From: Philip Dewe, Vice Master and Rebecca Gumbrell-McCormick, President Birkbeck UCU
As you may recall from the May/June 2006 Update leaflet, research staff were advised that a matching process was in development to move current research staff onto the new pay and grading structure.
Having consulted Heads of School and following discussions within the Framework Negotiation Group (FNG), agreement has now been reached on the matching process for research staff.
Heads of School will work with HR Advisers to match staff to the appropriate research job description document (JDD) and research level of 1, 2, 3 or 4. Each corresponding level will link to a grade on the new pay and grading structure and staff will be assimilated accordingly. Please note that an effective date of 1 August 2006 will apply.
At the point when all staff are told of the outcome of job evaluation, research staff will be advised in writing of their new grade. The appeals procedure will be available at this point should a member of staff wish to appeal against the level to which they have been matched.
For further information, the full matching process and research JDDs are available from the job evaluation website at http://www.bbk.ac.uk/jobevaluation/evaluation/research_staff.
