Organizational Psychology
BSc (Hons)
Course Overview
Organisational psychology is an exciting area of psychology that integrates knowledge at the individual and organisational levels on how people behave at work, manage their career and recognise individual differences. Our BSc Organizational Psychology provides you with a foundation in psychological theory and concepts before you gain insight into their application in core areas of organisational psychology.
-
Why choose this course?
- You will study in the Birkbeck Business School and be taught by research-active academics in specialised modules in applied organisational psychology.
- You will be supported in developing critical skills that lead to an independent research project, which matches your area of interest and has practical implications.
- This degree is accredited by the Association of Business Psychology, which provides students with opportunities to engage in real-life application of their learning and access to a range of career development events and resources.
- It also offers you the chance to follow a Placement route designed to enhance your career prospects, build your professional networks, and apply the knowledge and skills you have gained in a work context.
-
What will I learn?
On this organisational psychology course, you will learn to critically evaluate and challenge existing knowledge and organisational practices including group processes and organisational behaviour. It affords you the opportunity to gain an understanding of important topics in the workplace, including employee motivation, occupational health, and learning and employee development.
The course will also equip you with transferable skills, including advanced research skills, where you will collect and scrutinise organisational data. With academic supervision in your final year, you will identify an area of interest and learn to ask the right questions when conducting cutting-edge research.
-
How will I learn?
You will learn via a range of different methods including lectures, weekly seminars and workshops, where you will engage in discussions with academic staff and your peers.
The course is available to study full- or part-time and follows an evening timetable with some modules offering daytime sessions. You will attend weekly sessions on campus and online.
-
How often will I attend classes?
Full-time: Usually three evenings a week, October to July
Part-time: Usually two evenings a week, October to July
-
Placement route
The full-time Placement route is designed to enhance your employability. It gives you the opportunity to develop your organisational psychology skills in the workplace and apply learning from your degree in a professional setting. You will also be supported in areas such as effective job searching, the development of key application, interview and assessment skills and how to make a personal impact in the workplace. Please note that this option is not available for students who require a Student visa to study in the UK.
-
Foundation year
If you opt for the Foundation Year route, this will fully prepare you for undergraduate study during an additional year (full-time) or two years (part-time) of supported study. This option is ideal if you are returning to study after a gap, if you have not previously studied the relevant subjects, or if you didn't achieve the grades you need for a place on your chosen undergraduate degree.
Once you successfully complete your Foundation Year studies, you will automatically advance onto the main full-time degree.
