Birkbeck launches innovative new courses in artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and the environment

The courses are designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to succeed in fast-evolving industries.

Birkbeck is excited to announce the launch of a range of new undergraduate and postgraduate courses designed to meet the growing demand for expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), entrepreneurship, and environmental science. These cutting-edge programmes aim to equip students with the critical skills needed to address contemporary global challenges, blending academic knowledge with practical application across disciplines. 

MA AI, Ethics and Society, starting October 2024 

This new postgraduate course explores the complex ethical and societal implications of artificial intelligence. Combining insights from philosophy, law, and social sciences, the MA AI, Ethics and Society course prepares students to navigate the growing challenges posed by AI in contemporary society. The course balances technical knowledge with a deep understanding of ethical considerations, offering a well-rounded perspective for those looking to influence AI development and its applications. 

BSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation, starting October 2025 

Designed for aspiring entrepreneurs and business leaders, the BSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation course equips students with the tools to manage innovation and lead digital transformation within organisations. With a focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, the course offers access to Birkbeck’s renowned Enterprise Pathways for students interested in launching their own businesses. 

BSc Environmental Geoscience, starting September 2025  

The BSc Environmental Geoscience course provides students with the technical skills to address pressing environmental issues, from climate change to sustainable resource management. Through hands-on fieldwork and research-led teaching, this course prepares graduates for careers in geoscience, environmental management, and sustainability. 

BA Environment, Culture and Communication, starting October 2025 

This interdisciplinary degree blends environmental science with cultural and creative approaches to climate change advocacy. The BA Environment, Culture and Communication course empowers students to explore human-environment relationships and develop effective communication strategies to engage with environmental issues on a global scale. 

With the launch of these new courses, Birkbeck continues its commitment of offering innovative, flexible programmes that meet the needs of today’s students and that meet the demands of a changing world. More new courses in AI are due to be announced in the coming weeks.
