Postgraduate programmes

The Department offers advanced degrees in the areas of organizational psychology, management consultancy, human resources and coaching.

Birkbeck was the first UK university to offer Masters level education in Occupational Pscyhology and we are experts in understanding people and organisations within the contexts of occupational pscyhology and organisational behaviour.

Our MSc Organizational Psychology is industry relevant, informed by cutting-edge research and delivered in a supportive and friendly learning environment.

The study of human resources focuses on the management of people within organisations with the aim of enhancing individual, team and organisational performance. We offer two degrees in this field: MSc Human Resource Management (HRM) and MSc Human Resource Development and Consultancy (HRD).

Both courses draw on many of the same conceptual and theoretical foundations, but while the generalist HRM is concerned with the strategies, policies and practicies of managing human capital, HRD has a specific focus on approaches designed to enhance learning, skills, knowledge and hence performance within the workplace.

We've created a short video to explain the differences between these courses in more detail and help you decide which is right for you.

We offer courses in coaching psychology and career coaching at Masters and Postgraduate Certificate level. Taught by active practitioners, these courses combine academic theory with practical application in the workplace.

Coaching psychology supports executives and line managers to understand helping relationships in the workplace and how they can support organisations facing modern challenges. Our career coaching courses provide HR professionals, coaches and consultants with the skills to work with individuals at relational depth in organisations in the role of career coach.

Our innovative MSc Management Consultancy and Organisational Change combines the latest theory with practical application to prepare you to operate as a successful consultant.

A unique offering of this course is the Consultancy Challenge, which gives students the opportunity to put their skills into practice in a real-world consultancy placement.
