Postgraduate courses

The Department of Management offers advanced degrees in a range of specialist areas which reflect the research interests of our academic staff. You will be taught by lecturers who are engaged in cutting-edge research and join a passionate community of learners.

Our courses are taught in the evenings between 6 and 9pm over three terms from October to July. This means you can continue to work while realising your educational ambitions.

Postgraduate Subject Areas

Accounting and Financial Management

  • Our masters level courses in accounting and finance allow non-accounting graduates to develop an understanding of the key areas of accounting and financial management.
  • You will learn how to critically analyse case studies and live examples, ensuring this course is practically relevant.

Business Innovation

  • Whether you are looking to start your own business or become an intrapreneur, our masters programmes in business innovation will equip you with the theories and tools to manage innovation in business contexts.
  • Birkbeck is a centre for excellence in research and inspirational teaching in business and innovation, with a dedicated Centre for Innovation Management Research.
  • We offer the opportunity to specialise in e-business, entrepreneurship or international technology management.

Corporate Governance

  • We are specialists in responsible business education and our academics have expertise in areas such as corporate governance, ethics, responsible marketing and sustainable finance.
  • Through our courses in corporate governance, you will gain insight into the complex relationship between corporations, their stakeholders and society and develop the skills to influence governance and public policy in your career.

Creative Industries

  • The UK has the largest creative sector in Europe and government and business increasingly recognise its importance in generating jobs, wealth and public engagement.
  • Our unique programmes in creative industries explore how creativity functions in organisations and the best management practices for creating, circulating and commercialising ideas, knowledge and information, at local, national and global levels.

Culinary Innovation Management

  • Delivered in partnership with Le Cordon Bleu London, our MSc Culinary Innovation Management is designed to respond to the professional needs of a wide range of roles in the culinary industry: emerging entrepreneurs; managers in culinary arts and hospitality disciplines; leaders and innovators in the area of food business; people passionate about the industry.
  • You will gain the skills and knowledge to shape the future of the culinary industry with a creative, sustainable approach.

International Business

  • Our courses in international business provide a core training in international business management and research methods and are a great stepping stone to further research.
  • You will develop a global outlook and an interdisciplinary approach, encompassing management, economics and organisational behaviour.

Management

  • Our postgraduate courses in management allow you to further specialise in the areas of management that are most relevant for your career or further research, such as finance, human resource management or international management.
  • You will learn the theoretical underpinning of key management skills and practices and be able to apply this knowledge through critical analysis of subject matter.

Marketing

MBA

  • We offer a unique MBA in partnership with Central Saint Martins.
  • The course combines the best of an arts school and a business school, mixing creativity and innovation with responsible business and social engagement.

Sport Management

  • We offer a range of specialist courses in sport management facilitated by the Birkbeck Sport Business Centre, with options to specialise in marketing, management or governance and policy.
  • You will be taught by active researchers in the field who have specialist knowledge of the sport industry, governance and regulation.
