Graduates of Birkbeck's programmes in economics and finance work all over the City of London, in the Bank of England, in government departments, the International Monetary Fund, in universities in Britain and throughout the world. We are in no doubt a degree in economics or finance from Birkbeck will provide you with a wealth of opportunities. Studying at Birkbeck is also an enjoyable and intellectually exciting experience in itself.
All of the mathematicians at Birkbeck are active researchers, mostly in the areas of algebra and combinatorics. We have designed a taught MSc Mathematics programme around those strengths; modules are offered in subjects such as permutation groups, representation theory, graph theory, combinatorics, coding theory and cryptography.
At Birkbeck the postgraduate programmes in statistics, stochastic modelling and operational research are taught by enthusiasts. Teaching staff engage in fundamental research into the underlying mathematical theory and are active in consultancy. All are committed to passing on their knowledge and experience to support individual students' needs and interests in a wide range of application areas where advanced analytical skills are required to model and solve real problems and to extract information from complex data.
