Host a micro-placement

Birkbeck's Careers and Enterprise Micro-placement Programme matches employers with Birkbeck students and graduates to complete small-scale work projects.

Micro-placements can add value to your business and help you solve real-world business problems. The programme allows you to benefit from the skills and experience of our students and graduates, at very low cost to your organisation.

Each micro-placement should be a self-contained project that delivers a tangible benefit to your organisation. It should also include clear learning outcomes for the student to work towards.

Types of Micro-Placement

Micro-Placement Module

From 2024/25, you can host micro-placements for Birkbeck undergraduate students enrolled onto this credit-bearing module. These placements can be across any sector.

Santander Universities' Employability funding

Santander Universities' Employability funding continues to support our students' employability through a range of funded micro-placements. We're keen to connect with employers looking to offer meaningful placement opportunities to enable career progression and skills development for our students.

Micro-Placements in Digital

From January 2023, you can host students and graduates from Birkbeck in micro-placements in the digital space. This can include roles in cyber security, UX/UI design, product management, software development, digital marketing, data science and more across the digital sector. Host a four-week placement (or longer) at London Living Wage and receive £1120 funding towards each placement from Access Group.

Micro-Placements for disabled students

We're looking for disability-confident employers to host micro-placements for students who are disabled, neurodivergent, those with mental-health conditions and/or have a long-term health condition. These placements can be across any sector and you'll receive dedicated, tailored support from Birkbeck Careers and Enterprise to ensure the micro-placement is valuable for your business and the students.
