Student members of the School of Law Mooting Society participated in the LSE-Featherstone Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Moot 2015-16.
Student members of the School of Law Mooting Society participated in the LSE-Featherstone Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Moot 2015-16.
The moot is named after Baroness Lynne Featherstone whose work led to the passing of the equal marriage legislation.
The moot problem was based around the issues raised by the case of Gareth Lee v Asher’s Baker Co. Ltd. Birkbeck student Praveen Kumar described it as ‘an excellent moot problem which gave us an opportunity to discuss and see the role of law in dealing with social issues’.
‘It was an amazing experience and I feel privileged to have been able to participate in this event. It was also a fantastic opportunity to attend various workshops organised by LSE which addressed questions regarding issues faced by LGBT+ community’.
Dr Sarah Lamble from the School of Law was present as a panellist in the workshop on ‘Trans in the Criminal Justice System’.
‘We were given excellent support by the School of Law’ Praveen says, ‘we are also grateful to Philip King who gave his valuable time for our training. I would highly recommend that Birkbeck participates in this competition next year’.
