The School of Law have partnered with Release, the UK’s national centre of expertise on drugs and drugs law to offer internships to Birkbeck students.

Release’s legal team provides specialist advice to the public and professionals on issues related to criminal drug laws. It also operates legal outreach surgeries at drug treatment services and homeless day centres around London, advising primarily on welfare benefits, housing and debt issues.

Dr Kojo Koram, Lecturer in Law at Birkbeck, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Release to give a number of law students the invaluable opportunity to develop their ideas and skills alongside an experienced team of solicitors before they enter the job market".

“They will gain the experience of assisting on casework and advising on the helpline following training. This will greatly empower the students as they complete their studies and embark on their own legal careers.”

The partnership adds to a wealth of careers support and opportunities on offer to students at the School of Law, including a mentoring scheme, exclusive open days at law firms and opportunities with the River House Law Clinic and University of London Refugee Law Clinic.
