Education leaders from around the world hosted at Birkbeck
Birkbeck welcomed 19 international education leaders to its London campus during the Going Global 2025 conference to showcase its innovation, partnerships, and community impact.
A delegation of 19 higher and further education leaders from around the world visited Birkbeck on Tuesday 28 October.
The delegates, which included overseas government ministers and vice-chancellors from some of the world’s leading universities, were in London for the British Council Going Global 2025 conference to debate the future of further and higher education.
The visitors, who were welcomed to Birkbeck by Professor Lucy Mazdon, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation, heard about Birkbeck’s work to improve student outcomes; engage its local community; develop international partnerships; and as a University of Sanctuary, to support students and staff from forced migrant backgrounds.
They also toured the campus and learned about the ways in which Birkbeck is introducing immersive technology, such as virtual reality, into its curriculum and its work towards becoming carbon neutral.
Professor Mazdon said:
“Birkbeck is a comparatively small university with a broad international reach – our students come from over 125 countries and the research we carry out touches people’s lives across the globe, so it was a real pleasure to be able to welcome so many higher and further education leaders to our campus in Central London to showcase Birkbeck’s work and its unique place in the higher education landscape.”
