  • Dr Dionyssis Dimitrakopoulos -

    Dr Dimitrakopoulos holds degrees from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Athens), the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Institut d’Etudes Européennes) and the University of Hull.

    He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has held fellowships at Oxford and the LSE after having worked as a stagiaire in the Secretariat General of the European Commission. He has won research funding from, inter alia, the ESRC, the British Academy, the Leverhulme Trust, and the European Union.

    He directs the MSc in European Politics & Policy, has served on the ESRC’s Peer Review College (2010-14) and has acted as external referee for the Agence Nationale de la Recherche, France, the Scientific Research Fund, Flanders, Belgium, as well as several academic journals. In addition to English and Greek, he is fluent in French and has a working knowledge of the German language.

    He has served on the Brexit Policy Panel convened under the auspices of the ESRC’s UK in a Changing Europe programme. In 2018 he served as a jury member for the award of the best paper prize for the best paper presented on European politics and society at the 2017 annual meeting of the American Political Science Association. 

    In August 2020 he was awarded a Jean Monnet Chair (the first in Birkbeck's history) that will focus on the politics of parliamentary democracy and European integration. To find out more about the Jean Monnet Chair, visit its website.
