Using AI Tools for literature searching and finding journal articles
When:

A great way of utilising AI tools in support of your studies is to use them to help you find journal articles and with literature searching. Many students will have tried using well-known platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini but few have come across AI platforms that are specifically designed to help with finding academic articles. In this session we will cover the following:
- Learn how to use platforms like ChatGPT to help with creating search strings for use in academic databases.
- Explore some of the other AI platforms that are available for use and how they work.
- Learn how to implement AI effectively and appropriately in to your search strategy.
- Develop an understanding of the limitations of AI when it comes to finding, summarising, and evaluating articles.
Some courses do not allow any use of AI so if you are uncertain about whether AI usage is permissible for your studies, seek guidance from your tutors before signing up for this session. This is a fairly low risk use of AI, but some modules/lecturers are stricter than others and it is best to avoid the risk if necessary.
If you are interested in this session but unable to make it at this time/date, I'm happy to meet with students on a one-to-one basis to discuss this topic as well. You can find details about how to do this here.
