Microprobe Suite
The microprobe suite is used to characterise the composition of minerals, glasses and other solid materials. The suite is located in Birkbeck's Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (Malet Street building, 6th floor).
Equipment:
- It hosts a Jeol 8100 Superprobe for WDS analysis, which is also equipped with an Oxford Instrument microanalytical system for quantitative EDS analysis. Samples can be imaged and their composition analysed for most elements, from Carbon through to Uranium.
- A Raman system is also available for materials identification (BWTek i-Raman, with microscope).
