Graduation ceremony procedures

Ceremony information

  • If you are taking part in the ceremony (e.g. as ushers, platform party members), we will send you detailed information on your tasks well in advance. You may also be invited to attend a rehearsal the day before the ceremony, so you can clarify exactly what will be expected of you.
  • Please let us know in advance if you have particular access requirements, so that appropriate arrangements are in place.
    • Ceremony dates: undergraduate graduation ceremonies are held in November. Postgraduate graduation ceremonies are held in March.
    • Venue: Senate House.
    • Length of ceremony: approximately an hour, followed by receptions, which also last about an hour.

Information for academic staff

  • Academic staff from the relevant Schools are invited to take part in the platform party, to celebrate the success of their graduates.
  • We will send an invitation to School administrators, including a robe booking form, well in advance of the ceremony. They will be asked to forward this invitation to academic staff in their School.
  • All platform party members are required to wear academic dress. You will need to order your academic gown by completing the robe booking form and sending it to External Relations.

Information for administrative staff

  • Administrative staff from the relevant Schools are welcome to join the audience. .
  • Administrative staff should wear academic dress if they are qualified to.  You will need to order your academic gown by completing the robe booking form and sending it to External Relations.
