Birkbeck last night celebrated the end of the first year of the Compass Project, an initiative which gave 20 asylum seekers access to fully funded study. A further 20 students will begin courses this autumn.

Birkbeck’s President calls debate to highlight collapse in part-time and mature student population and request action to reverse the trend.

Dr Sanjib Bhakta has been awarded the inaugural Rishi Bankim Chandra Memorial Award, in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of global infectious diseases research.
