High Impact Award for entrepreneurial students

Successful events organised by the Birkbeck Enterprise Hub for Global Entrepreneurship Week

Student entrepreneurs at Birkbeck have been given a High Impact award in recognition of the success of the events that they organised during Global Entrepreneurship Week 2013.

The Birkbeck Enterprise Hub, a collaborative project run by students and staff at Birkbeck, organised a series of workshops and seminars from 20-22 November which aimed to help entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs learn more about how to launch and run a successful business.

The high impact awards recognise events organised during Global Entrepreneurship Week that provide role models, offer practical support and develop enterprise capabilities.

Andrew Atter, Birkbeck’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence, said: “The key to the success of our Global Entrepreneurship Week events was to enable a high level of student engagement in the design and operation of the events. Our student entrepreneurs are really the ones most connected with exciting developments in entrepreneurship in London, and by focusing on their networking role in the start-up community we design events with a positive impact on employability.”

Elisabeth Raab, Deputy Executive Director of the Enterprise Hub and an MSc Management with Business Innovation student who organised the Global Entrepreneurship Week events at Birkbeck, said: “I decided to join the Enterprise Hub to get involved in the entrepreneurial student life at Birkbeck. After deciding to participate in Global Entrepreneurship Week 2013 we built up our project team and started preparing the event by arranging workshops for our students, invited speakers and organised a market fair and a mentoring corner. We wanted to afford our students, and especially those who want to start their own business, as much support and advice as possible.

“During my work with the Birkbeck Enterprise Hub and especially during the organisation of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2013, I made contact with college professors, entrepreneurs and young professionals as well as with students from our and other universities. I really think working with the wonderful team at the Birkbeck Enterprise Hub fosters an exchange between business, college and students and is an experience no student should miss.”
