How the Subject Librarians can help you to help your students
There are six subject librarians in the Library, each with responsibility for specific departments. We liaise with academic staff to make sure that the library budgets are spent appropriately and are also available to help you and your students with literature searching, finding information, using other libraries, citing references, etc.
We can help you and your students by:
- Checking your reading lists and making sure everything is in stock in the Library. Please send us your reading lists in good time, so that items can be in stock by the time the students need them.
- Arranging for articles and chapters to be digitised for the VLE. Please contact your subject librarian for details of what can be digitised, the deadlines for digitisation requests and for information about copyright. There is also more information on digitisation here.
- Giving Library induction sessions so that all students are familiar with the Library and can make the most of what we offer. Please contact your subject librarian if you would like to arrange a Library induction for your students or if you would like your subject librarian to give a talk at induction events you are arranging.
- Giving in-depth information skills workshops on search skills and using specific databases and other resources. These can be particularly useful if arranged when students have a piece of work to do that will require literature searching. Please contact your subject librarian if you would like to arrange a workshop for your students.
- We also run a programme of Saturday workshops for students to help them become familiar with particular resources and we are available for one-to-one sessions with any students that are in need of extra help.
