New online resources

The Library has recently subscribed to several new online resources covering subjects such as historical newspapers, cartoons, Egyptology, maps and art history.

Academic Search Complete
Major new multi-disciplinary online resource giving full text access to more than 8,500 journals, including 7,300 peer-reviewed journals, with abstracts for an additional 12,500 titles (including monographs, reports, and conference proceedings).

The Carl Giles Trust Collection: Artwork, files and related documents from the studio of cartoonist Carl Giles. Includes approximately 6,500 original artworks for the cartoons; reference files of photographs and cuttings; correspondence; a reference book collection including publications featuring his own work; an almost complete set of Giles annuals; cards; photographs; films and objects. http://www.bbk.ac.uk/lib/elib/databases/carl-giles-trust-collection

Diary of Mrs Birkbeck: A complete digitisation of Anna Birkbeck's 250 page album, rediscovered in the Birkbeck College archives.  The diary spans the years 1825 to circa 1847, and contains contributions from noted intellects of the day, including an unpublished poem by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley entitled The Death of Love. http://www.bbk.ac.uk/lib/elib/digitalimages/diary-of-mrs-birkbeck

Historic Digimap: Provides access to historical Ordnance Survey maps from 1843 to 1996. The Illustrated London News Historical Archive 1842-2003: The world's first illustrated weekly newspaper which sparked a revolution in journalism and news reporting. International Bibliography of Art: A bibliography of scholarly writing about the history of western art covering the literature from 2008 onwards providing references to books, exhibition catalogues and journal articles. JSTOR: We have recently purchased some new content that has been added to the popular JSTOR resource – the Arts and Sciences IX collection – which has added around 70 new journals to our ever-growing list of ejournals.

Online Egyptological Database: Includes the volumes of the Annual Egyptological Bibliography (AEB) combined with the Bibliographie Altägypten (BA), providing coverage of the Egyptological literature from 1822 to 2002, as well as partial coverage of 2003-2008. http://www.bbk.ac.uk/lib/elib/databases/arts/online-egyptological-bibliography

Science: We now have Science Magazine available online from 1880 right up to the latest issue. Just go to the eLibrary www.bbk.ac.uk/lib/elib/ and type “Science” into the “Find a known ejournal” search box
