What is Birkbeck eLibrary?
The eLibrary gives you access to electronic resources such as electronic journals (ejournals), databases and past exam papers.
Accessing the eLibrary from outside College
When you are using a computer that is not on the College network you need to be identified as a member of Birkbeck in order to gain access to the e-resources that we subscribe to. To do this, you need to set a "cookie" in your browser. What is a cookie? Click on the link below to set a cookie in your browser.
Once you have set the cookie, there is no need to do this again for 18 months.
To log on after setting the cookie: Just access the e-resources as usual via the menu on the left. Whenever you access an e-resource you will see a page with a link that says "Take me to the Birkbeck College login page". Click on this link and enter your IT Services username and password.
Important: alternative login page if you are unable to set the cookie on your computer
Which username and password?
Most electronic resources require a username and password when you are not on the Birkbeck campus, e.g. if you are accessing them from home or work. In most cases you will need your IT Services username and password. Information about obtaining your IT Services username and password
If you are doing a Faculty of Lifelong Learning diploma or certificate course you will need to activate your IT Services username and password if you haven't already done so (activation takes 24 hours). Link to the IT Services activation page
Any other usernames and passwords needed for electronic resources are available from the Library Help Desk (020 7631 6063) or via our email help service (library-help@bbk.ac.uk).
