We offer courses at all levels

We offer a range of courses, from certificates and short courses, to undergraduate study and postgraduate study, right up to MPhil/PhD level. You can join us at whatever level suits you.

Our courses offer high-quality research-led teaching

Since our foundation, we have achieved an enviable reputation as a centre of innovative scholarship, teaching and learning. Our general teaching strategy is to ensure that, as far as is practicable, staff should be able to teach to their research. This ensures that our students are introduced to cutting-edge debates about the subjects they study by teachers who are making a significant contribution to the field.

Our staff are experts

Our academic staff are recognised as experts in their fields and approach Law in an innovative way, introducing students to a vibrant research culture.

We are particularly interested in theoretically informed and multi-disciplinary approaches to the study of Law with a special interest in introducing the scholarly values and methods of the social sciences and humanities into the studies of law and criminiology.

Building your social and professional networks

The reasons people choose to study in the evening are as individual as the people you will sit next to in class. They bring varied experiences into their studies and share them with fellow students. With us you’ll not only learn the theory, but will also discuss how that theory relates to the workplace and the wider world.

As well as learning about the professional world from other students, you can get help from Birkbeck alumni. Our graduates often say that Birkbeck changed their life, so they are passionate about us, and enjoy sharing their professional expertise with current students.
