Department of European Cultures and Languages

Part of the School of Arts at Birkbeck, University of London, our Department brings together research and teaching in French and German, and institutionalises long-standing links between these disciplines, for example, in the new MA Comparative Literature.

Ours is a community of scholars with shared interests in interdisciplinary topics and cross-cultural research. Our affiliated research centre, Birkbeck Research in Aesthetics of Kinship and Community (BRAKC) provides an important platform for this exchange.

As language specialists, we provide the opportunity to study theories, texts and historical sources in the original language.
