Student research bursaries and funding
The School of Arts at Birkbeck is one of the most vibrant and exciting environments in which to undertake postgraduate studies in the Arts. Over 290 PhD students currently study with us across a range of doctoral programmes. We have an outstanding track record of doctoral research training and opportunities, within established subject disciplines and in interdisciplinary and practice-based modes.
Birkbeck Postgraduate Research Scholarships 2017-18
For 2017-18 the School of Arts are offering up to 12 fully funded Postgraduate Research Scholarships, which consists of a full fee waiver (capped at the Home/EU rate) and maintenance payments in line with RCUK rates. Further details and information on how to apply are here.
School of Arts Research Studentships 2017-18
The School of Arts also offers Arts Research Studentships (ARS) for study commencing in 2017-18. Studentships consist of a full or partial fee waiver for M.Phil/PhD study. Further details and information on how to apply are here.
Please note that if you are applying for both BPRS and ARS you need only complete one funding application form.
Stuart Hall Scholarship 2017-18
Birkbeck is proud to announce a partnership with the Stuart Hall Foundation to jointly fund a Stuart Hall PhD Scholarship in 2017. Applications are invited from prospective research students looking to work in an interdisciplinary area of study focused on one of Stuart Hall’s many areas of interest: cultural studies, psychosocial studies, ‘race’ and ethnicity studies, visual arts, politics and sociology.
