Peter Goodrich

Peter Goodrich was founding Dean of Birkbeck's School of Law when it was re-established in the early 1990s, guiding its rapid and successful growth for eight years.

A law graduate from the University of Sheffield, he completed a PhD in law and linguistics at Edinburgh before lecturing in Liverpool, Newcastle-Upon Tyne and Lancaster, as well as amassing a number of visiting positions around Europe. He came to Birkbeck as the inaugural Corporation of London Professor of Law in 1991. Professor Goodrich then headed to the US, first to teach at the University of California Los Angeles and then Cardozo School of Law, New York, where he has been Director of the Program in Law and Humanities since 2000.

As well as authoring prolific numbers of scholarly texts and editing legal journals, Professor Goodrich is also a film-maker whose work has included the documentary Of Many, which featured at the Tribeca Film Festival, and a published chef with recipes in several publications. In addition to his Cardozo role, he is visiting professor of Law at New York University, Abu Dhabi.
