Student transition and success
Starting university is an exciting time to grow your skills, make new friends and explore new experiences. To help you get started, we’ve lined up some fantastic programmes to support you to make the most of your time at Birkbeck, succeed in your studies and have fun.
On Track
On Track is Birkbeck's free summer programme for all new undergraduate students. The programme is designed to help prepare students for life as an undergraduate student at Birkbeck and will include social activities, workshops, advice sessions and academic experiences.
On Track Express is the condensed version of this programme for offer holders who were unable to attend in July or have come through Clearing.
Visit our On Track page for more information and registration details.
Skills4Success
All Birkbeck students bring valuable knowledge, skills and experiences to their studies. It’s what makes Birkbeck students unique and brilliant.
Skills4Success surveys all new foundation year and first-year undergraduate students to help you discover your strengths and explore your aspirations.
Once you have enrolled, look out for our email inviting you to complete the questionnaire. Alternatively, you can access it via the Moodle task list page – any tasks you need to complete will be listed there.
Contact the Success Team if you have any questions or would like more information.
BBK Peer Mentoring
BBK Peer Mentoring is a peer mentoring scheme that offers first-year students an opportunity to meet with an existing Birkbeck student. These informal, regular chats provide a way to ask questions and speak with someone from a similar background who can provide support and guidance from a student's perspective.
Meetings take place in and around Birkbeck's campuses with vouchers provided for tea or coffee.
If you are a foundation or first-year undergraduate, you can register for the programme as a mentee.
If you are a returning student (undergraduate or postgraduate who has previously studied at Birkbeck), you can register for the programme as a mentor.
Registration opens in September 2025.
Contact the BBK Peer Mentoring Team if you have any questions or would like more information.
