Autism spectrum conditions

The mental health and autism support service support students with existing or suspected ASD.

You might have received a diagnosis in childhood and learn to navigate life with your neurodivergence but starting university represents a new challenge and our service is here to support you. To book an appointment with one of our advisors please complete the Mental Health Advisory Service Registration Form.

If you have suspected autism but haven’t been diagnosed, please have a look at the guidance for getting an autism diagnosis

How we can help you

Our service is aware that there are several mental health struggles that autistic students experience

  • 8 in 10 autistic people will experience a mental health problem in their lifetime
  • Autistic people are four times more likely to experience depression than non autistic people
  • 42% of autistic people experience anxiety in childhood compared with non autistic people
  • There is a strong correlation between camouflaging behaviors and social anxiety.

In addition, we are aware that hypo and hyper sensitivity to external stimuli has an impact in your university experience.

The above are just some examples, autism affects people differently, and we want to meet with you to understand how autism might be affecting your studies and to develop a bespoke study support plan to respond to your needs.
