A scholarship of £3,500 is offered for students of law in their final year of an LLB or LLMQLD course. We are able to offer this scholarship due to the generosity of The Right Hon. Sir Terence Etherton, Baron Etherton, who left a substantial legacy to Birkbeck, University of London to support students of the Birkbeck Law School.

Sir Terence was elected a Fellow of Birkbeck in 2019, following a period as a Visiting Professor of Law and a Patron of the Birkbeck Law Review. He had a distinguished career in the law culminating in serving as Chancellor of the High Court from 2013 to 2016, and as the Master of the Rolls and Head of Civil Justice from 2016 to 2021. Eligibility

Applicants must be on an LLB or LLMQLD course based at our Bloomsbury campus (including courses delivered online), and be expecting to progress onto the final year of study in the 2026/27 academic year.

Applicants must have a household income below £42,875.

This scholarship is competitive and will be awarded to the students who are best able to demonstrate both academic excellence and the impact receiving this scholarship would make on their studies.

Value

The scholarship value is £3,500 and will be paid to the student to assist with their study and living costs.
