The Karen Yu bursary is an award of £3,000 to help cover the cost of fees for the MA Creative Writing for a student entering into the second year of study part-time.

Our MA Creative Writing offers you valuable professional support and feedback and the guidance of published authors. The course is available full or part-time.

This award is for a student in financial need who would benefit from the help towards covering the cost of the degree. There is also an additional £3,000 which will be awarded at the Exam Board, at the discretion of tutors and the course director, to a student who shows exceptional promise in their dissertation, to give time and support post-MA to complete a work in progress. This financial support has been donated in memory of Karen Yu who studied on the MA at Birkbeck.

Eligibility

You must be:

  • a home student
  • entering the second year of the MA Creative Writing course
  • a registered student on a Birkbeck programme that is based at our Bloomsbury campus in London (this includes programmes delivered online).

The award is based on the quality of the work and financial need.

Value

£3,000 to be used for tuition fees only.

If your programme is over multiple years then the payment will be split across those years.

Birkbeck reserves the right to withdraw or amend a scholarship without prior notification. Scholarships are offered subject to funding and availability.

Students can receive only one Birkbeck scholarship.  If the student applies for multiple scholarships, and is placed within the number of awards available, they would receive the highest value award only.
