Thanks to a generous donation from the family of the late Professor Claire Callender OBE, we are able to offer a bursary to support one or more students studying MA Psychosocial Studies or MA Psychoanalytic Studies.

Claire Callender became part of the Birkbeck community in 2008, when she was appointed Professor of Higher Education Policy, later becoming Professor of Higher Education Studies. Over 15 years, she contributed immensely to the life of the College through her scholarship, her commitment to Birkbeck’s mission and her energetic engagement with policy makers. Her influence on the shape of UK higher education has been profound. She is remembered with enormous admiration, respect and affection.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • enrolled on the MA Psychosocial Studies or MA Psychoanalytic Studies
  • entering the second year of study in 2026-27
  • studying part time
  • paying Home fees.

Value

The bursary will provide a fee remission of up to £2,500 for recipients the second year of study in 2026-27.

The deadline for this bursary is 31 July 2026.

Students can receive only one Birkbeck scholarship. If the student applies for multiple scholarships, and is placed within the number of awards available, they would receive the highest value award only.
