David Lammy MP on becoming a new Birkbeck Fellow

The Rt Hon David Lammy MP was awarded a Fellowship in our Spring 2018 graduation ceremony. Lammy has long been a champion of the lifelong and part-time learning offered by Birkbeck and we're proud to welcome him to our community.

April 2018’s graduation ceremonies for Birkbeck students were staged in the heart of Bloomsbury. Seven ceremonies took place from Tuesday 24 April to Thursday 26 April, with almost 900 graduating students awarded their degrees over the course of the week.

The Master of Birkbeck, Professor David Latchman CBE, greeted each of them with warm congratulations with hundreds of family and friends looking on.

As well as graduating students, two new Fellows were formally recognised for their contributions – the Rt Hon David Lammy MP and Professor Marianne Elliott – with the College Orator, Professor Joanna Bourke, speaking about their lives and involvement with Birkbeck and its community of students and staff.
