Why Study Earth and Planetary Sciences at Birkbeck?

Our flexible courses are available for full-time and part-time study. You can choose face-to-face evening study in London or study from anywhere in the world via distance learning. Within these degrees there are plenty of chances for fieldwork, with trips to Wales, Scotland, Greece and Morocco.

Birkbeck was rated in the top 25 universities in the UK for its Earth Systems and Environmental Science research in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework. Current research projects include investigating volcanoes in North Korea, earthquakes in Italy and hominid evolution in South Africa.
