About Birkbeck Creative Practice Lab

Birkbeck’s Creative Practice Lab supports research (including innovation, knowledge exchange and public engagement) and teaching across the creative arts, including digital media, film, visual art, creative writing, theatre and performance. The Lab aims to cultivate cross-disciplinary creative practice and inquiry within the university, and to build relationships among artists, cultural organisations and industry outside the university. Based in the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication, the Lab includes BIMI (Birkbeck Institute for the Moving Image), Birkbeck Centre for Contemporary Theatre, BIRMAC (Birkbeck Interdisciplinary Research in Media and Culture), the Derek Jarman Lab, the Peltz Gallery and the Vasari Research Centre for Art and Technology. While each research centre and institute operates independently, we work collectively as the Lab to identify shared priorities and goals.
