About us
Birkbeck Philosophy Research Centre
We are a community of scholars and students dedicated to philosophical and interdisciplinary research and discussion, and to intercollegiate cooperation with philosophers in other colleges of the University of London. Our members include all the current Birkbeck Philosophy faculty and emeriti professors, our Honorary Research Fellows, and many other philosophers who are friends of the Centre. We meet fortnightly for discussion of our own new philosophical work, and we invite talks from scholars in other disciplines, and from philosophers of other colleges. These seminars and talks are open to our philosophy postgraduate research (PGR) students.
We also run a fortnightly research seminar led by one of our philosophy academic staff, on a theme within their area of expertise. PGR students from other University of London colleges are welcome at this seminar. In autumn term 2025, this seminar will be led by Keith Hossack, on the theme of ‘Persons’. The topics to be discussed will include the nature of persons, the problem of solipsism, empathy, love, and the value of persons.
Based in 30 Russell Square, we bring together scholars from a wide range of philosophical disciplines, fostering an environment of exciting research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and intercollegiate cooperation.
