New working groups

HOW TO APPLY

Nascent groups that wish to apply for funding should  to request an application pack.

Applications should be three years in the first instance, renewable for a second three-year term with demonstration of the vitality and impact of the group.

We ask that all working groups reflect the interdisciplinary approach that is central to the BISR mission.

Groups should be prepared to provide a rationale for their working group, addressing questions such as:

  • What is the area of research?
  • What are the implications of this research?
  • How does it contribute to the BISR mission?
  • What would be the relationship between the working group and existing departments and research centres?
  • What would the working group accomplish that could not be accomplished within an existing entity?

FUNDING

Funding for the Institute is agreed on an annual basis, and so we require that working groups submit an annual funding request to be considered by the BISR Director and the Birkbeck Institutes Steering Group (BISG), which is headed by Pro Vice Chancellor (Research), Professor Julian Swann.

The maximum amount of support from the BISR for one year is £3,000.

All funding is held by the BISR, and all spending should be made in arrangement with the BISR Manager.
