Birkbeck, University of London Criminology

A centre of innovative scholarship, teaching and learning

Criminology

Why study criminology at Birkbeck?

We offer a stimulating learning environment, and our students have the opportunity to learn alongside people from diverse professional experiences and backgrounds. You'll study in the heart of London and be taught by internationally recognised academics whose scholarship contributes to, and challenges, traditional approaches to criminology.

Modules cover topics from prison abolition, racialised policing, migration and social welfare, to gendered violence, terrorism, organised crime and drugs. Students learn about national and international criminal justice policy, institutions and practices, and the people who make, and are subject to, these processes.

We host events such as Criminology Research Seminars and Law on Trial, and students are encouraged to attend.
