Postal, van and porter services

Postal service

The postroom is located in the General Office, which is in room G52 on the ground floor of our main building on Malet Street (entrance on Torrington Square).

We collect and deliver post and intercollegiate mail (one daily delivery) across Birkbeck. We also: 

  • provide information on postal regulations and services 
  • offer solutions for special requirements 
  • give advice on customs declarations 
  • supply documentation for international parcels 
  • organise couriers. 

Dispatch deadlines 

  • 4pm for general post 
  • 3:30pm for recorded, registered and special delivery post. 

Abbreviations on post 

  • first-class: a red tick 
  • Inland Recorded: RD 
  • International Recorded: IR/D 
  • International Registered: INT.REG 
  • Special Delivery: SP/D 

Van service

Birkbeck runs an electrified van for staff deliveries, Monday to Friday, which visits the following buildings: 

  • Malet Street 
  • 4, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 20 Gower Street 
  • 25, 28 and 30 Russell Square 
  • Gordon Square 
  • Egmont House 
  • Clore Management Centre. 

Goods and post are distributed throughout the day, depending on traffic. You can use the van service to move boxes, stationery and equipment.

Porter service

We have a porter, who can help with moving items around Birkbeck.
