    Overview

    Biography

As well as working at Birkbeck, Joyce is Research Associate in the Centre for Decent Work at the University of Sheffield, working on a project examining changing work and employment in the parcel delivery sector. Prior to moving into an academic career, Joyce was the Head of Assisted Transport for Transport for London (TfL), responsible for developing new strategic approaches to transport provision for older and disabled Londoners, who face barriers to using public transport. Before joining TfL, Joyce was a senior trade union researcher for a major trade union (the Transport and General Workers’ Union, now part of Unite).

Joyce’s PhD research examined the contribution being made by trade union equality representatives to union renewal and revitalisation. Joyce also holds an MSc in Occupational Psychology, from Birkbeck (University of London) and a BSc in Psychology (Newcastle University).

    Research interests

Joyce’s research interests currently centre around the changing nature of work, worker voice, workplace justice and democracy and the ‘contested terrain’ in which trade union and management actors seek their own visions for progressive change.
