Overview
Biography
Best known for her work on regulatory agencies ('Independent Agencies: Hierarchy Beaters?,' 1:2 ELJ 1995), capital markets (‘The Regulation of the Insurance Sector’, in OUP Handbook for Financial Services 2015) and citizenship (‘A Citizenship in Movement’, 5:5 German Law Journal 2014), Professor Everson has broad teaching and research interests in international economic law, regulatory law, legal theory, European law and constitutional law as it intersects with the interests of the private sphere.
Professor Everson received her PhD from the European University Institute and has held posts in Italy, Germany (Centre for European Legal Policy, University of Bremen) and the UK. She has researched throughout Europe, holding various research grants from the German DFG, the European Commission and the European Central Bank. Most recently, Professor Everson helped lead the Jean Monnet network on European Regulatory Agencies, co-ordinated from Maastricht University (https://tarn.maastrichtuniversity.nl/).
Currently, Professor Everson is concentrating upon her interests in economic law and in divergence from a mainstream tradition of European legal thought. Together with Professor Christian Joerges (emeritus, Hertie-School of Governance, Berlin/University of Bremen), she has published recently in each field and is developing a project on ‘Dissenting Voices’ (‘Un querelle allemande? Der Streit um die Wirtschaftsverfassung zwischen Ernst-Joachim Mestmäcker und Rudolf Wiethölter‘, in 4:52 Kritische Justiz 2019; ‘Critical European (Union) Law’, in Research Handbook on Critical Legal Theory, Edward Elgar, 2020).
