Biography
Sophie is a doctoral researcher in the School of Law, funded by a UBEL Doctoral Training Partnership Scholarship. Her research explores discussions of crime and disorder on location-based social media, examining how these shape users’ perceptions and navigation of their neighbourhoods and local communities. Sophie is an interdisciplinary scholar and has a broader interest in digital ethnographic methods and research ethics.
Sophie is also an Associate Lecturer in Race, Crime and Justice and a Hyflex Classroom Assistant at Birkbeck. She draws on extensive experience in the Higher Education Outreach and Widening Participation sector to create inclusive learning environments that foster engagement, curiosity and critical thinking.
