    Biography

    Having left school early to become a telephone engineer, I later studied Economics at Birkbeck, in the evenings while working in the day. That changed my life and I'm still a professional economist and businessman. Economics is a lifelong pleasure and gave me a rewarding and interesting career in academia, government and the business world.   I'm currently a Fellow of the Royal Economic Society, the Society of Professional Economists and the Academy of Social Science. I also do a lot of work for the Government Economic Service where I used to be a deputy director.
