The Uni Connect team has raced into the New Year with the launch of our new set of webinars under our Targeted Outreach strand aimed at Year 12 and 13 students, along with their parents and carers. We kick off the webinars during National Apprenticeship Week and will be hearing from Rate My Apprenticeships along with a panel of current apprentices (former students at Havering Sixth Form College) about how to secure the right apprenticeship.

We are also now in the recruitment stage of our Strategic Outreach Kick Start Project which aims to engage white working-class boys into higher education by showcasing the courses leading to a career in the sporting industry. We will be working with Kingston University and the University College of Football Business to deliver the project and are currently seeking colleges for their year 12 Sports students to take part.

Also under our Strategic Outreach strand, our engagement co-ordinators have been busy this January securing exciting opportunities for college students. Havering Sixth Form visited London Southbank University’s nursing centre situated in Havering, demonstrating the benefits of staying local and obtaining a health-related degree. Point Blank Music School visited Havering music students, raising the awareness of careers in the music industry, and we are also working with Looked After Children and bursary students on a one-to-one basis, supporting them with career options and university choices.

At Barking & Dagenham College, University of the Arts London has delivered workshops for our arts students and the University of East London is working closely with adult learners on Access courses in particular around interview skills.
