Uni Connect - Linking London Update February 2024

February 2024 update from Uni Connect

This month, the Uni Connect Team have been busy engaging with various students, supporting them with their future choices. As part of our strategic outreach strand, our match-funded project in partnership with Birkbeck University to work with adults in the community has engaged with 50 learners and our match-funded project with Haringey College through Greenwich University has engaged with over 120 students so far, and we are excited for our Arts project at Barnet and Southgate College to complete this week, enabling us to evaluate the impact of this in our next update.

Under our Attainment Raising strand, we are excited to launch our series of taster sessions in arts and creative courses with the University of the Arts London at NewVic College and are finalising dates to run our literacy project in schools courtesy of Birkbeck University.

As part of National Apprenticeships Week, we launched our first webinar in our ongoing series of online workshops for college students on Apprenticeships and this was delivered by Rate My Apprenticeship along with a Q&A panel of current student apprentices from New City College in Havering. We saw a staggering 777 people register, with 250 of these parent/carers and represented from over 15 colleges in London. We have 6 more webinars to host over the course of the academic year.

In our colleges, our Engagement Co-ordinators have been working hard to bring universities to the students and have been working on 121 basis, supporting applications to university. Barking & Dagenham and NCC Ardleigh Green have welcomed UAL for a portfolio workshop, as well as a Student Finance seminar from Middlesex University and are looking forward to running their peer-to-peer mentoring project with mature students currently on Access courses. Coulsdon College have been working with their SEND students and those with EHCPs to support their future choices, hoping to run a group initiative shortly.
